Upcoming!!!

I was too excited for words when I found out I was going to have to stand in line at the post office on a Saturday morning...Thanks to Bake It Pretty! I was going to pick up the key ingredient to the newest addition to my cupcake family!

Watermelon flavoring oil. After much research about watermelon cupcakes, I've found that this could quite possibly be the only way to achieve a masterpiece. I'll be baking these this week...

And another thanks to Bake it Pretty! for the cute post card included in my order, as well as their great products and adorable packaging!!!

Oreos & Marshmallows

Oreos & marshmallows. These were the first cupcakes that I ever made for anyone outside of family. They are the perfect birthday party cupcakes for kids!! I made them for a local pee-wee football league using their colors for frosting. I definitely prefer using gel coloring as opposed to the liquid, although it took a lot of the gel to get the blue close to the color of the team's blue.

You can check out the recipe HERE. I do sub milk for the water in this recipe and sometimes butter and a little more milk for the oil. This time I also subbed the yellow cake mix for a package of Golden Vanilla I already had in the pantry.

The first time I ever made these, I used her frosting. I loved it. This time I made my own vanilla buttercream** because I was afraid that the kids wouldn't so much like the cream cheese aspect as much as the straight sugar one...Either way, they are a hit. Everyone was shocked to bite into the cupcake and find a whole cookie!

**I should really try and work on a recipe for this but I find that I just eyeball the ingredients. I use butter, milk, vanilla, and confectioner's sugar until I get the consistency and taste that I like and a thickness I can pipe onto a cupcake without it melting into a pile of frosting in this humid state I live in!**

Welcome...

Welcome on my *hopeful* journey through the world of delicious cupcakes. I have always wanted to do something for a living that makes people smile (the occasional "wow" wouldn't hurt either) so here I go. Still a full-time employee elsewhere, I'm starting my own side business. Baby Cakes. Logo is in process as is marketing and all the other things that go along with business-making.

I'll be posting a new recipe any time I try one so be prepared...I love to bake. My photo skills are currently quite shoddy but I can make it work. Blurry cupcakes don't do anyone any good!
